Printer Setup & Configuration: Network & USB Printing

This guide walks through setting up network and USB printers on Windows, macOS, and Linux, plus configuration and troubleshooting.

Network Printer Setup

Windows Setup

  1. Go to Settings, then Devices, then Printers & Scanners
  2. Click “Add a printer or scanner”
  3. Select the printer from the list or use its IP address
  4. Install drivers if prompted
  5. Set it as the default printer
  6. Test with a print document

macOS Setup

  1. Go to System Preferences, then Printers & Scanners
  2. Click + to add a printer
  3. Select your printer
  4. Choose the driver option
  5. Add it to the printer list
  6. Configure the default paper size

Linux Setup

  1. Open CUPS (Common Unix Printing System)
  2. Add a new printer
  3. Enter the printer IP address
  4. Select the driver or model
  5. Configure settings
  6. Test print

USB Printer Connection

Direct Connection

  1. Connect the USB cable to the computer
  2. Windows: drivers install automatically
  3. macOS: drivers install automatically
  4. Linux: may need manual driver install
  5. Check Device Manager for status
  6. Set as default if desired

  • Pause the queue for maintenance
